Nursing school is truly an amazing journey. You learn what interests you the most in the medical field, you gain a vast amount of knowledge in health care, and it pushes you. It pushes you to be a better person and healthcare professional. In some aspects of nursing school, it becomes a challenge and sometimes we feel a sense of resistance when we try to move forward. I am going to provide you with four tips to help you minimize and overcome those challenges that arise in nursing school.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Time Management:\u00a0<\/strong>This is a crucial skill to master during\u00a0nursing\u00a0school.\u00a0Everyone has something going on in their life such as work,\u00a0fitness,\u00a0religious obligations,\u00a0school, family,\u00a0and\u00a0children.\u00a0It benefits you to\u00a0understand\u00a0what tasks you\u00a0must\u00a0complete for the hour, the day, or the week.\u00a0Allot a specific amount of time to each task you have. For example, I will go to\u00a0school for\u00a0four\u00a0hours,\u00a0then\u00a0gym for one hour,\u00a0study for\u00a0two\u00a0hours, and then have some free time for\u00a0one\u00a0hour.\u00a0\u00a0
    <\/li>
  2. Prioritize:\u00a0<\/strong>Look at what tasks you have at hand and figure out which one should be\u00a0done first.\u00a0Understand what is\u00a0non-urgent, urgent and emergent.\u00a0The beauty of knowing how to\u00a0prioritize\u00a0makes\u00a0us\u00a0more productive with our work\u00a0which develops a strong work ethic.\u00a0Aside from prioritizing your work,\u00a0do not\u00a0forget to prioritize yourself.\u00a0It comes off selfish, but you\u00a0must\u00a0take care of yourself before you take care of others.\u00a0It is like\u00a0being on an airplane and when the oxygen masks come down, you\u00a0must\u00a0put it on yourself first before putting it on someone else\u00a0who cannot.\u00a0Make sure you are receiving adequate sleep, minimizing consumption of malnutrition food, and staying active!\u00a0
    <\/li>
  3. Organize:\u00a0<\/strong>In nursing school, there are going to be so many dates\u00a0for when assignments are due, projects are due, and when exams are.\u00a0Having\u00a0all these dates and assignments\u00a0recorded in an\u00a0organized fashion\u00a0allows you to\u00a0stay on top of everything. There is a sense of being in control when this is\u00a0accomplished,\u00a0and you become more confident with\u00a0what needs to be done.\u00a0There won\u2019t be\u00a0any\u00a0last-minute\u00a0incidents\u00a0where you\u00a0realize you didn\u2019t do an assignment or missed that online quiz that was due last night.\u00a0Overall, being organized improves student outcomes and reduces unnecessary stress.\u00a0Utilize calendars, planners, and various phone apps to assist you in staying organized.\u00a0
    <\/li>
  4. Positive Attitude:\u00a0<\/strong>Although nursing school can be stressful at times and you\u00a0may feel overwhelmed, always maintain a positive attitude!\u00a0If you are in a nursing program, you are in a great position in life because there are people who\u00a0would love to be in a nursing program who are not.\u00a0Don\u2019t look at nursing school as,\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s so much studying\u201d, but rather,\u00a0\u201cI have\u00a0multiple\u00a0opportunities to learn so I can\u00a0become\u00a0a competent nurse\u201d.\u00a0Additionally,\u00a0do not\u00a0forget why you are in nursing school.\u00a0You went to nursing school to become a nurse\u00a0so please don\u2019t let grades\u00a0negatively affect you.\u00a0Striving for\u00a0As\u00a0on exams is the goal, however, it is not the end of the world if you do not get an A. If the minimum to pass is 70% and you get 71%, congratulations, you have exceeded the school’s standard. In my opinion, there is no test in nursing school that will define your capabilities as a clinical nurse. I have worked in the medical field for\u00a0five\u00a0years and I have NEVER had any patient ask me what my grades are. Grades are a number at the end of the day. Your GPA will not be on your RN license. The impact you make on your patient is what matters. Your knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0patient safety is what matters. Your patient advocacy is what matters. Comforting those in need and in a vulnerable state is what matters.\u00a0Do not\u00a0forget the purpose of nursing school. It’s to be a phenomenal and competent nurse, not to have the highest grades.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Using these tips has helped me to be successful in nursing school, and I hope they do the same for you! You control nursing school; nursing school does NOT control you.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
